Review of Small Treasures by Kerani
Simply stunned! Yes, this is what I have to say when I came to know about the artist and beauty she has offered to the world through her music. It is not often that I would start my review with such straightforwardness but there’s no other befitting introduction that, I think, will do justice to the treasure that I hold in the form of a music album, which is incidentally named ‘Small Treasures.’
It is almost overwhelming when you come across a person who is so full of talents and passion–knowing about Kerani feels like a privilege. She knows six languages and has such a rich taste of poetry–listening to her music and reading about every track in the booklet that accompanies the CD made me yearn for a meeting with her and convey my thanks for such a beautiful gift that she has shared with all of us.
When you check the list of guest artists on her album, you will realize this is truly a world-album, as musicians and artists from so many countries came together to produce an international sonic potpourri for listeners!
Album Name: Small Treasures
Artist Name: Kerani
Total Time: 53:29
The album is a very intimate one–unlike the previous albums that the artist has produced, this one is driven by her heart. She has put her soul and her very being in it, and obviously, the sweetness can be felt in every song.
Visiting her childhood, sharing her ancestral culture, her love for poetry, and the ability to create an art form inspired by another art form–you get everything in this album. This sensitivity, this delicacy, this subtle connection between various elements of our existence is what makes artists stand-out, though there are billions of people who call this earth their ‘home.’ Listening to the album, I felt a sense of gratitude that I share this earth with her!
As the name of the album suggests, the album is a compilation of small treasures handpicked and carefully packaged keeping their serenity and value intact. Starting with the very first song ‘Temple of Roses,’ the artist sets the tone. This song is beautifully rendered by Chanele McGuinness as she lends her voice to powerful and beautiful words of ‘A Fantasy’ by Sara Teasdale.
From ‘Fields of Hungry’ to ‘Sakura,’ the listener is up for a world tour, gliding over cultures and styles with softness and comfort.
There is a strange stillness and a sense of peace in every song that the artist has picked for this album. ‘Fantasy in White’ is a beautiful melody ideal for some intimate and quiet moments with yourself.
While listening to the album, I felt that I could write a poem for every piece. If you are looking for some quiet time, and want to disconnect yourself from the outer cacophony, this album will provide the ideal mindfulness.
I wish all the success to Kerani, and also invite listeners to immerse themselves in these treasures and float with them into deeper realms and far-away planes of existence.
