Touch & Sound: Investing In The Power Of Electronic Music To Touch The Untouched
Innovation is at the root of any well-received musical composition. In music, the scope to innovate is vast and literally never-ending. For generations, we have been producing music on several instruments and with the human voice. However, the advent of electronic music has opened up new vistas for artists to explore the power of music in newer directions. “Touch & Sound” by Juan Sánchez is a marvelous composition inspired by this trend. Talking of the roots that nurtured the production of this album, the composer says, “The meaning behind Touch & Sound is the hybridization of my two loves – growing up as a classical musician and falling in love with Ambient/New Age electronic music later on.”
The Mastermind
A classical artist and composer of our times, Juan Sánchez has his base in Barcelona, Spain. Juan Sánchez is a composer of a rare kind predominantly working on instrumental and ambient electronic music. Off late, he is excessively focusing on the piano. Sanchez has over two decades of experience in delivering music for an array of music producers, multimedia, and sound libraries. He enthralls the huge base of his followers by giving it some interesting composition every month. Following a highly productive spring and summer in 2021, Juan Sánchez embraced the production of “Touch & Sound“.
Sánchez is at his best in creating stories without lyrics letting the audiophiles experience his album in subtle and profound ways with his compositions stemming from his personal reflections of the life around him. His ability to connect the audience with music on an emotional plane sets him apart from the rest, thoroughly evident in some of his earlier albums like Rebirth (2019) and Now the Silence (2020). The third accomplishment in the line Touch & Sound released on Oct. 29, 2021, also follows suit.
The earlier albums of Sánchez namely “Rebirth” and “Now The Silence” were centered on the ideas of self-healing and expressing oneself through music. In fact, the music of those two albums has helped several film directors to add an emotional element to their storylines.
The Album
In “Touch & Sound“, Juan Sánchez has shrewdly synthesized rich electronic sounds, strings, and heavenly voices. The sounds of the piano form the base of this composition, skillfully embellished by other instrumentations like string sounds, synthesizer backgrounds, and heavenly female voices. In telling the listeners what he has attempted in this composition, the artist says, “I strongly believe that simple pieces of music, played with the right touch and sound, can create an amazing atmosphere. This is what I have tried to demonstrate with this album.”
“Touch & Sound” is a highly immersive kind of music that lets the listeners discover the elements of surprise and adventure all through the different tracks. The album has lifted creativity in music to new vistas. The production team consisted of Runar Blesvik, Simon Teece, Miguel Mendoza and Bruno Sanfilippo. The concept of this album has its deep roots in his personal reflections of his own experiences, and the world around him. In this incredible album, we see the author narrate a profound story entirely in musical notes, without needing lyrics to do the job.
There are 17 tracks and all of them are meticulously composed with the interplay of balance and melody. This album attests to the unique capability of the artist to let the listeners establish a deep connection with composing music. Each of the tracks is profoundly meaningful and gives something unique in conveying the theme suggested by its individual title. On the whole, what you take with you is a feeling of contentment and joy that the album has driven so deeply into your consciousness.
The opening track “Sands of Time” surfaces the idea that none can stop the passage of time. Life is short and hence time is all the more precious. Through this track, the author enjoins his audience never to waste time. He explains this in his own words, “I consider time to be one of the most important and precious of gifts we can possibly have, so I try to use it wisely. We can earn the money we spend, but we cannot get back the time we have lost. This makes time more valuable than money.”
In the second track, “Those Fridays”, the composer escapes into nostalgia getting back to his childhood. In capturing the spirit that made him admire Fridays when he was a tiny tot, Juan Sánchez says, “For me, Friday was the best day of the week as it meant the beginning of the weekend. I was always looking forward to Friday and feeling the freedom of not having to go to school for two days. Friday nights were also magical watching TV programs or listening to music until late knowing I would not have to get up early the next day.”
The title of the third track is “Piga al Cel”. This Catalan expression means ‘freckle in the sky’, often used by the artist’s sister in describing the moon. In saying how much he liked this term to describe the moon, Sánchez says, “I always found this description of the moon so sweet and tender that I wanted to write a song about it,” which he has done meticulously.
One another track named ‘Paralian’ is again a marvelous opus highlighting the ocean as the best avenue to connect with nature and the mother earth and experience a kind of solace. Of Greek origin, the term “Paralian” refers to the one living at the seaside. While highlighting the mood that gave rise to the track, Sanchez says, “There are a million and one things I take for granted in my life, and living within 10 minutes of the Mediterranean Sea is definitely one of them. There’s nothing quite like being able to pop down to the beach in a heartbeat whenever you need it. As Albert Einstein said: ‘Look deep into nature and you will understand everything better.”
On Experiencing the Album
While immersing yourself in these tracks, you are in for several surprising and exciting moments. The predominant mood permeating the album is a sense of wonder and adventure. The primary mission of the artist in this composition seems to be giving some novel stimuli that can ignite the passions of listeners. The narrative element of this music is profoundly charming that has taken this unique album to an altogether new level of impact.
The philosophy that drives the composition appears to stem from what the artist describes as, “I am of the opinion that sound can expand consciousness, and with the syncing of these two diverse worlds I create the ultimate journey for myself to transcend my current time, space and reality.”
