Album Review—Mystic Voyager By Peter Sterling
Soul’s Sojourn In Worlds Undiscovered
Music is a versatile tool. Seasoned musicians invest in the power of music to achieve their cherished mission with the audience. While music can entertain, educate, and inspire, Peter Sterling uses it as a vehicle for the mystic voyage. Sterling’s new album ‘Mystic Voyager’ is a virtual journey into a universe unknown for transformation and healing.
Described as his most ambitious project, ‘Mystic Voyager’ is also Sterling’s largest ensemble produced to date. In this mesmerizing production, some top talents in the music industry join him. The exceptional artists who have teamed up with Peter Sterling in ‘Mystic Voyager’ are Richard Hardy on flutes and soprano sax, Seay on vocals, Darlene Koldenhoven on piano, David Young on flute, and Steve Oliver on guitar.
A medley of intricately woven musical delights, every track is worth listening to quite many times for the amazing impact it has on the listener’s consciousness. In each of the album’s songs, the listener is assisted with different kinds of virtual journeys into intriguing unknown realms. Music lovers and fans of different genres are sure to fall in love with this breathtaking and versatile composition.
Listening to Mystic Voyager was a real musical treat for me; of a kind I was longingly waiting to relish for quite some time. Each of the nine tracks is unique in its own merits in line with the title of the track. Flutes and the other instruments carefully chosen for the project seem to be a great choice to deliver the theme the composer has for his followers.
1. Invocation (04:22)
Setting the platter for the divinely mesmerizing musical treat is exceptionally done in ‘Invocation’. The artists together succeed in creating a serene mood that lingers in the listener’s consciousness till the end of the album and even later. The opening feels unearthly and set in a divine world we are yet to experience.
2. Nightwind (04:39)
Nightwind always speaks in a heavenly language. When you get to listen to the soft whispers of the night wind during a night’s solitude, you feel comforted, cajoled, and healed of your worries. The second track ‘Nightwind’ is set in happy tunes. It is a song to celebrate your infinite potential and that can do anything and everything you will want. The confluence of the instruments simulates a heavenly flight in an unearthly aircraft and I enjoyed it thoroughly.
3. Cosmic Lover (4:44)
The third song ‘Cosmic Lover’ creates a ‘wow’ effect in the listener through the depths it can plunge into their consciousness. The confusing differences of the external world are tallied to merge into a unified whole. The result is an all-permeating love that elevates the listener to heights farther than the visible sky. Especially, the beats syncing with the melody instruments in a surprisingly unpredictable layout is a magic the artists have made it possible through great teamwork.
4. Across The Great Divide (5:47)
In the fourth track ‘Across The Great Divide’, every instrumentalist has contributed exceptionally to the composer’s purpose in front of them. A drift in virtual flight across mountains and oceans, this track is a charming one endowed with enormous healing effects. The vocals are at their best in this track and you feel light and relieved of all your pains and struggles.
5. Bahia Del Sol (6:22)
Referring to charming tropical hideaways, Bahia Del Sol in Spanish refers to some of the exceptional beauties of nature. These sights are the dream of any beachgoer. Basking in the sun in Bahi Del Sol is one of the most fascinating retreats one may aspire to enjoy. The fifth track is a meticulously composed and skillfully rendered song that defies set rules and transports the listeners to esoteric worlds. The longest track in the album, this is also one of the most joyful pieces in the collection.
6. The Long Cold Winter (4:49)
Winters spell can be unbearable especially when the season grows over seemingly longer months. The sixth track named ‘The Long Cold Winter’ is a solemn composition, which I found of a different breed than the other songs. The vocals are skillfully composed and deftly delivered. All instruments merge their tunes in unison to the overall mission of soothing the heart. The resulting effect is that of a lullaby putting your consciousness to total rest.
7. Light of Your Love (5:17)
The seventh track is one of my favorites in the album. This song lights up the journeying soul’s paths with myriad lamps of brilliant light. There is a warmth pervading the track with brisk tunes of the wind instruments harmoniously getting along with the strings and beats in a joyous ride.
8. Angels Ascending (3:39)
Angels are a sign of fulfillment of wishes. ‘Angels Ascending’, the eighth track has many characteristics of ambient music creating a lovely world around you. The flutists have done a dexterous job in setting the canvass for a dream world to blossom. The vocals deliver a magical effect and you discover a new path to your journey.
9. Wings of Light (3:15)
The last track ‘Wings of Light’ is based on some unearthly concept both in theme and deployment. Soothing harmonies of flutes surround you with a magical spirit. You begin to feel lingering happiness and heavenly joy transporting you to worlds far above and beyond the visible horizons. When the track is played, you feel you have already escaped to your dream destination to dwell there forever as long as your consciousness feels alright.
Take Away
‘Mystic Voyager‘ for me is truly a mystic composition that is worth preserving among our most valuable music collection. You will find this music an effective aid in your meditation. Find some quiet time and give yourself to this marvelous album–the tracks are sure to leave you transformed with love, light, hope, and a better purpose for life.
