Album Review—Private Earth by Carlos Dengler

A Secret Mail To The Listener’s Heart Presenting The Key To Ultimate Joy

It is a joy to come across something as refreshing as Carlos Dengler‘s music–his forthcoming album ‘Private Earth’ offers six tracks, which are a pure delight for someone who is looking for an immersive sound experience.

Many of Dengler’s inherent interests have put him in a multifaceted deep communion with NATURE. As a backpacker, he is inclined to venture into places of exceptional natural beauty. As a naturalist and nature photographer, he has always learned to admire the bountiful gifts of nature. He has an accomplished career as an essayist, filmmaker, and performer in regional theaters. As a multi-instrumentalist and composer, he has chosen some inspiring genres like ethereal, experimental, and ambient music.

This album follows two of Dengler’s highly acclaimed albums in New Age Music namely Aqueduct (April 2022), and Ecospheres EP (September 2022). Dengler seems to have forayed into New Age Music as a natural development of his Goth roots. The influences that appear to have shaped his music are Goth, Classical music, dark ambient music, spiritual minimalism, and ambient and new-age music.

A walk through the tracks of Private Earth

In ‘Private Earth‘, Dengler demonstrates his dexterous skills in handling music in support of a spiritual theme. The title and music of every track have been enthused by an awe-inspiring element of nature. From deserts to lakes to mountains, the artist has attempted a panoramic journey through nature’s best scenes to derive much-needed spiritual inspiration and in turn pass it on to his audience through the language of his expert music.

#1. Desert Flora (12:49)

The longest song in the album, the first track gives an incredible opening. The melodies and beats make a syncing march penetrating deep into your being and getting some incredibly sweet gifts to your soul. The delightful experience is soothing and elevating. As the song progresses, you discover you are enraptured to subscribe to the concept Carlos is trying to promote through his music. 

‘Desert Flora’ or vegetation in the desert is always awe-inspiring due to its rarity. Parched throats and desiccated eyes feel a delight at the sight of flora amidst the scorching desert scape. Whatever is rare in the world is always high in demand. And the song is definitely a rarity.

#2. Violet Night (8:22)

A darker version of blue, the color violet gets closer to the theme of the night. The kind of opening the artist attempts for the track lets you envision nightly blossoms springing to life. The progressive tunes that follow lead you deeply into nightly visions amidst natural beauties. The overall effect the composer achieves through this track is redemption from the sufferings of the earth and a deeper communion with the scantly visible flora and fauna in the night jungle.  

#3. Golden Dawn (07:17)

Dawn always brings amazing hopes and promises with it. The golden hue of the dawn indicates the prosperity we will confront on the way.  The tunes of the third track suggest the gradual unfolding of dawn bringing light and blessings onto the earth. With the progress of the track, you feel your consciousness widens to take in the blessings swelling around you. The entire track feels soothing as well as rejuvenating.  

#4. Ancient Lake (09:31)

The term ‘ancient’ can mean ‘continuity’ and I found the ‘Ancient Lake‘ an awesome song in the album. The sight of a vast water body like a lake can inspire feelings of stillness and promote a meditative mood. Precisely, this is the effect the song achieves on the listeners. 

#5. Solemn Cavern (07:30)

We always need some time alone for self-introspection. The time we spend with ourselves can be the royal avenue to personal growth and maturity. The fifth track titled ‘Solemn Cavern’ is an assemblage of solemn tunes that invoke concentration, focus, and meditation in the listener. You feel much better, relieved, and invigorated by moving with the track.

#6. Rising Mountain (07:02)

The mountain is a symbol of hope, confidence, and motivation. The sixth track named ‘Rising Mountain’ marks the epitome of the journey Dengler takes his audience on. The musical technique the composer employs seems to be a different one from the earlier tracks. Right from the beginning, the tunes are profound and majestically move upwards lifting the spirits of the listener to great heights. This track aids in the discovery of the listener’s true worth embedded in his deep consciousness and revealed through his music. The result is ‘ULTIMATE JOY’ that lasts for so long in the core of the heart.

Music is the language the soul can comprehend easily irrespective of the geographic and cultural barriers. To talk to his audience in a distant land, an artist does not need a translator or an interpreter. Carlos Dengler belongs to a rare breed of artists who create music to inspire the spirits of people. ‘Private Earth‘ is a rare kind of album you will long to listen to many times. In quenching the thirst of your soul, it delivers music directly into your being and elevates your consciousness to levels unfrequented.
